KLOSTAIN 24 L 40x30x20 — navy blue — cabin backpack

4.6/5 from 8,043 reviews published on the marketplace.

Exactly the maximum free personal bag on Ryanair, Jet2 and Wizz Air.

  • 40 x 30 x 20 cm: the largest size still free
  • 24 litres, enough for three to five days away
  • About a fifth more room than a 20 litre pack

Cabin luggage

The largest size that still costs nothing

Plenty of backpacks stop well short of the free allowance and leave litres unused. This one takes the limit: 40 x 30 x 20 cm is the exact figure Ryanair publishes for the personal bag included with every fare.

KLOSTAIN 24 L 40 x 30 x 20 cm — navy blue — Every centimetre of the free allowance
01 / 40x30x20

Every centimetre of the free allowance

Against a 40 x 20 x 25 cm pack, the depth is the same but the height rises to 30 cm. Volume goes up by roughly a fifth without ever leaving the allowance. On budget airlines it is the best capacity-to-free ratio in the range.

KLOSTAIN 24 L 40 x 30 x 20 cm — navy blue — Packing that survives the journey
02 / 40x30x20

Packing that survives the journey

The 180° opening gives you the whole volume at once. The compression strap holds the stack of clothes in place in transit, which is what stops the bag slumping and spreading past the allowance after two connections.

The details that matter in transit

There is also a Premium version, with a reinforced base and a dressier finish.

03

A USB port to charge as you walk

A USB pass-through runs through the bag and connects to your own power bank, kept in an inside pocket. No more cable dangling between bag and pocket. The battery is not supplied, and it must stay in the cabin with you, never in the hold.

04

A separate laptop compartment

The laptop travels in its own compartment against your back, with pockets for the charger, cables and pens. It comes out on its own at security, without unpacking the rest.

05

A back pocket nobody can reach

Flat against your back, this pocket stays out of reach while the bag is on your shoulders. It is the obvious place for a passport, a phone or boarding passes on a crowded train.

06

A strap for your suitcase handle

A strap crosses the back of the bag and slides over the telescopic handle of a wheeled case. The bag stays put and your hands stay free in the terminal.

What the airlines allow

At 40 x 30 x 20 cm this pack sits inside the free personal bag allowance of the main budget airlines, and inside the cabin bag allowance of the full-service carriers.

How to use it

Staying within the sizer to the gate

When you use the maximum size there is no margin left, and that is the one thing to watch with this format. Pack flat, tighten the strap before you close it, and resist pushing a rolled jacket into the front pocket as you reach the gate.

Common questions

Before ordering, check the size, the colour, the seller and the delivery and returns terms shown on the retailer’s page.

Is 40 x 30 x 20 really free on Ryanair?

It is the maximum size Ryanair publishes for the personal bag included with every fare, raised from 40 x 30 x 15 cm in September 2025. Jet2 and Wizz Air allow the same. Close the straps so the bag holds its shape.

How many days does it hold?

Three to five days depending on how you pack. It is the best compromise in the range between real capacity and flying free.

How is it different from the 20 litre?

Ten centimetres more height, for roughly a fifth more volume. The 20 L keeps a margin against the sizer; the 24 L uses all of it.

Will a laptop fit?

Yes, in a separate sleeve with pockets for the charger and cables. The screen size it takes is in the specification table.

What happens if it fails at the gate?

The bag is then treated as a cabin bag and charged at the airport rate, which is far higher than booking online. Which is why packing flat and tightening the strap matters.

Spacious and well organised cabin bag

This backpack makes excellent use of the permitted cabin-bag dimensions and holds much more than it initially appears to. The separate compartments help keep clothing, toiletries and electronics organised, while the compression straps reduce bulk. It is comfortable enough to carry, although it becomes quite heavy when packed completely full. A practical choice for short trips.

First things first, I haven’t yet used this bag to travel anywhere, but it does look to be fairly sturdy, the material also looks to be hardwearing, and I reckon it should hold up well but of course only time will tell. What I have done is try it out to see how much I can get in it without it bulging and possibly failing the Ryanair check-in check. I’m a large, 6ft plus bloke and so far I’ve managed to pack 6 pairs of underpants, 6 t-shirts, 1 pair of trousers, 3 pairs of socks, and 3 shirts - and I reckon there’s still plenty of room for toiletries plus phone and charger whilst keeping it within Ryanair’s under seat size constraints, plus it’s not heavy. I should mention that the front unzips to hold a laptop - although I won’t use it for that, I’ll probably stuff a couple of magazines in - and there’s pockets to keep small stuff like your phone and passport easily available. The zips look reasonably sturdy and I guess you could fit some mini padlocks on them to that they couldn’t be undone whilst travelling. So all-in-all it looks to be perfect for a long weekend and will replace my ageing small rucksack that has accompanied me on flights all over the place. Not bad for £24.

I purchased this bag to take with me on my Qatar Airways flight. Like all airlines, Qatar Airways has a hand luggage size limit, and this bag fits perfectly within it without compromising capacity. The bag has one large, spacious compartment, perfect for shoes, clothes, laptops, and more. It also has a smaller pocket with some internal organisation, which is great for chargers and books. In addition, there is a small front pocket that is convenient for smaller items like wipes or hand gel. Finally, there is a pocket on the back that is perfect for passports and phones because it is not accessible while the bag is on your back. I found the backpack comfortable, although my back did hurt after a while; however, I had packed 7 kg of items into it. The bag itself is relatively lightweight, but its size can make it feel heavy when full. Padding throughout the bag, including in the main compartment and on the shoulder straps, adds protection and comfort. The zips seem to be of good quality and, despite stuffing as much inside as possible, did not appear to suffer any damage. The zips also have a small hole at the end, allowing you to attach a padlock if desired. The material of the bag seems relatively tough, and I was confident throughout my journey that my items would be safe. My only complaint is that, as someone who carries lots of cables and electronic devices, I feel it could have benefited from more organisation inside the bag, whether in the larger pocket or in an additional medium-sized pocket. Overall, if you are looking for a carry-on bag that satisfies most airlines’ size limits while giving you plenty of space in a durable and comfortable bag, this one is for you.

Ryanair and easyJet compatible, and genuinely good quality for the price. Fits perfectly under the seat with no issues, and the size is spot‑on for the strict 40×20×25 allowance. The material feels strong, the zips are decent, and it holds more than you’d expect for a compact bag.

Comfortable to carry, with enough pockets to keep things organised without overcomplicating it. Ideal for quick trips, school runs to the airport, or avoiding extra baggage fees.

For the price, it’s great value — well‑made, airline‑friendly and far cheaper than most high‑street options.

I love this bag. I bought this air to go on an Ryan Air flight. It fits under the seat in front. It has lots of pockets and sections, including 2 bottles holders. This bag has been well designed. The bag fully opens up making this easier to find things or to pack things flat. It has a secure pocket at the back to keep documents/passports safe when wearing in the airport. The bag has 4 straps to make the bag narrower and I used the clips to hide the zips under when walking around busy places for a bit of added security. I think that it was supposed to have a cable in the bag to use with a power bank in the top pocket.... The cable was missing. For our next flight I bought 2 more of these bags in different colours for my children as I found it so good and my youngest daughter's bag did have the cable. I use my bag all the time for days out, when my daughter goes to her clubs and I need to take something for me to do... etc. It is really comfortable on the shoulders too... It is not a big bag but does the job really well.
